The headline entry is Bombardier's Global 8000, which entered service in December 2025 as the first purpose-built business jet to sustain repeated supersonic dashes (Mach 0.95) in testing while retaining an 8000 nm range and short-field capability from runways as short as 5760 feet via its Smooth Flex Wing. The type has already set a city-pair speed record between Montréal-Trudeau and Nice, and fleet operators are moving quickly — NetJets has begun receiving the first of 24 planned units, while VistaJet is upgrading its entire 18-aircraft Global 7500 fleet to 8000 standard at a reported pace of two aircraft per month. The multi-year gap between first flight and certification underscores how demanding modern certification of fly-by-wire business jets has become, particularly with novel systems like the smart throttle and FalconEye CVS requiring extensive validation. Collectively, this wave of new metal signals sustained OEM investment despite economic headwinds, and for operators and flight departments planning fleet transitions, it means more capable, more automated, and more efficient options across every mission profile — but also a widening gap between legacy fleets and this new generation that will accelerate retirement decisions and retraining cycles over the next several years.
